We live near an area of town that has a street market. Really? And 90% of Calcuttans say the same thing of their neighborhoods, who knew! As people get ready for the October festivities there are times when being on the streets is a mixture between being in a bootcamp and a permanent street fair. It is tradition to buy gifts and a new outfit for the holidays so people are like little ants going in and out of stores, bargaining their little hearts out, and eating lots and lots of street food and there is a great deal of honking (but here that is endemic and incurable) and buzz and movement of every kind. Evidently I was not only doing my water homework in Nepal but I also was doing quite a bit of that.. tourism thing too. As much as I’d like to think of myself as someone who would be sensitive to [other]humans in need around me at all times–clearly I have very high standarts too– I am finding that I like to play tourist sometimes. oh heck no I didn’t say that?! Oh yes I did. I like the boutique little restaurant and also the clean sheets in a hotel and don’t mind paying for a taxi. And I would love to go to Paris or Barcelona and sit on that cafe.. Although I would hope to never go as far as sitting on that tour bus. Ever. Therefore, I did…

In seattle, summer arrives slowly. It would be an understatement to say I am ready to have a different weather pattern that cold-and-rainy and vise versa. Although, monsoon season in Kolkata officially starts in June, I wouldn’t be surprised to find it steam-roomy when we arrive–aaron is thrilled–I think my sunglasses are already fogging up. yikes! Summers in seattle are to die for. if you can, do take a short ferry ride to Vashon island and make sure to stop here.
